SandboxVille License and Terms of Use

These terms are a contract between you and David Davis, doing business as SandboxVille, Zanesville, Ohio ("we", "us"). "You" means the person who installs or uses SandboxVille. "SandboxVille" means the software you downloaded: the Lobby, the Security Office, the Agent Hub, the rooms we made, and their files.

Please read section 9 (limits on what we owe you) and section 11 (where disputes go). When you download, install or use SandboxVille, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

1. What you may do

You may download SandboxVille for free and use it on computers you own or control, for personal use or for your work. You may let people you trust join your town over your own home network. You may back up your own data and your own rooms.

2. What you may not do

Unless we agree in writing, you may not:

  1. copy, sell, rent, lend, share, upload or hand out SandboxVille or any room we made, in whole or in part (a link to our download page is fine);
  2. change it, or make something built from it, except your own rooms as section 6 allows;
  3. reverse engineer it or try to get around its safety checks (door signs, the guard, fingerprint checks), except where the law says you are allowed to;
  4. remove or hide our names, licence notices, or credits, or the third-party notices;
  5. use it to break the law, to harm people, or to attack computers or accounts that are not yours.

3. Who owns what

SandboxVille is licensed to you, not sold. We (and our licensors) keep all rights not given to you here. Parts made by others keep their own licences, listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences. "SandboxVille" and our logos are our brand names; these terms do not let you use them.

4. AI helpers you bring are your choice and your responsibility

SandboxVille lets AI programs you choose ("AI helpers") work inside rooms on your computer. SandboxVille shows what each room says it can touch, blocks room requests that are not on the room's sign, and keeps a record of what happens through SandboxVille.

  • We do not make, control, or check the AI helpers you bring (for example Claude, ChatGPT models, Gemini, Grok, Cursor, Codex, Ollama or LM Studio). What they do outside SandboxVille, on your computer or online, is between you and them.
  • AI answers can be wrong. Check anything important before you rely on it. Nothing an AI says inside SandboxVille is legal, money, medical or other professional advice.
  • Your key, your bill. If you add a cloud AI with your own key, that company's terms apply and it may charge you. We do not see or pay those charges.
  • You decide which AI helpers to use, which folders to lend, and which actions to allow, and you are responsible for that.
  • The built-in Guide is not an AI model. It only gives SandboxVille's own help text.

5. Rooms

A room is a small program. SandboxVille checks each room's fingerprint against our list and shows its door sign before you place it. Read the sign and only place rooms you trust. The safety checks lower risk; they do not remove it. We are responsible for the rooms we make, within the limits of sections 8 and 9. We are not responsible for rooms made by others.

6. Your stuff stays yours

Your town, your rooms, your notes and your files are yours. SandboxVille keeps them on your computer and does not send them to us, so we get no rights to them. If you share a room you made, you must have the right to share everything in it.

7. Updates and changes

We may release new versions. SandboxVille does not update itself; a new version is a new download. You may keep using the version you have under the terms that came with it. If we change these terms for a new version, we will say so in that version's release notes.

8. No warranty

THIS IS FREE SOFTWARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR THAT SANDBOXVILLE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR ALWAYS AVAILABLE. SAFETY FEATURES REDUCE RISK; THEY DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT NO HARM CAN HAPPEN. KEEP YOUR OWN BACKUPS.

9. Limits on what we owe you

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS:

(a) WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, DAMAGE TO FILES OR DEVICES, OR CHARGES FROM AI COMPANIES, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE; AND

(b) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ABOUT SANDBOXVILLE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (1) WHAT YOU PAID US FOR SANDBOXVILLE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (2) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS (US$50).

These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them, for example to liability for fraud, for intentional harm, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. Some places do not allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

10. Ending

You can stop at any time by deleting SandboxVille and its data folder (see the privacy statement). If you break these terms, your licence ends and you must delete your copies. Sections 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 11 and 13 still apply after the licence ends.

11. Law and disputes

Ohio law and applicable U.S. federal law govern these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any lawsuit about these terms or SandboxVille must be brought in the state courts of Muskingum County, Ohio, or the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and you and we agree to those courts. Either of us may instead bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you keep the protections of the consumer laws where you live and may also sue in your local courts.

12. Age

You must be at least 13 years old to use SandboxVille. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.

13. Other legal terms

You may not use or export SandboxVille in violation of U.S. export or sanctions laws, including in a country or by a person under U.S. embargo. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later. These terms, the privacy statement, and THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt are the whole agreement about SandboxVille.
